Mobile Clinic

Overview:

The Mobile Clinic is a venture of Victory Ministries International and the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropole.

This truck has two compartments that are neatly furnished with cabinets, a fridge, a bed, as well as a toilet facility. One of the compartments is utilised as a reception area and the other as an examining room. It serves three disadvantaged areas, which were previously far from medical facilities; Red Location, Joe Slovo and KwaDwesi extension.

This unit serves these communities by providing basic health care, TB treatment, child immunisation, family planning, as well as examination and referrals. With two full time nurses on board, an average of 100 people a day, 5 days a week, receive medical care. From time to time the mobile clinic serves as a center for food distribution.

The mobile clinic runs on an estimated cost of R20 000 per month. The mobile clinic is nothing less than a testimony that the church is addressing the needs of the people.

Why a mobile Clinic

The mobile clinic is a solution to the problem of a lack of accessible health care to some previously disadvantaged areas, that lack the infrastructure for a permanent clinic and a very far from a clinic.

Due to poverty and many other socio- economic problems we continue to see an increase in informal settlements being established, thus the need for such facilities continue to increase. - A mobile clinic therefore makes basic health care available and accessible

History:

In 2002 Victory Ministries International. A 20 Ton truck was fitted with cabinets, a bed, fridge and a toilet. Staff: nurse and driver. Three years later the metro came into partnership with Victory by providing qualified nurses as well as the medication.

Vision:

• To equip the existing mobile clinic with a computer and software for the administration.
• Full time counselor that travels with the mobile clinic.
• Improve service delivery
• To increase these facilities by making available more mobile clinics to other areas that are in need.
